I recently shared a few posts over on Instagram of some updates we made to our master bedroom. Matt and I are quick to take on projects to update every thing else in our home, but when it comes to the master, we have just been kinda…slow.
The more I think about it, the more I think that the master bedroom should be one of the FIRST places in your home that gets an update. Make that space your oasis. If you’re anything like us, we seem to spend a great deal of time in there, so it might as well be a place that we love.
When updating our space, I really wanted to focus on adding products to our home with products that are ethically and sustainably made, are made with natural or organic materials, and repurposing items we already owned as we could to prevent waste.
Thuma Bed Frame
This bed is beautiful. Which, lets be honest, is high on the list of must haves for any big purchase. I dug deeper and was happy to find Thuma’s furniture is Greenguard certified and the brand works with One Tree Planted to plant a tree for each bed purchased. This is a classic platform bed, but made better. It features Japanese joinery, which means NO TOOLS! Also a plus, it came really fast in three manageable packages, so good for second floor bedrooms, maneuvering tight hallways, etc. No regrets on this purchase!
Awara Mattress
We partnered with Awara Sleep to update our mattress. The Awara Sleep mattress is an organic hybrid mattress made from natural and organic materials. We’ve tried memory foam mattresses in the past, and we knew they just aren’t for us. This mattress is made with an organic New Zealand wool (from happy sheep!) pillow top, natural Dunlop latex, and layer of individual wrapped coils. It is supportive but comfortable. If it is helpful, Matt is a back/side sleeper and I am a stomach sleeper. Plus, it accommodates a kid (or two) that likes to hop in bed with us in the middle of the night.
The delivery was super fast delivery right to our front door. The box is big for the king (obviously), but nothing Matt couldn’t manage. The most important part is I sleep SO WELL. Like, I truly have not slept this well in YEARS, and that’s with a wild three year old sleeping next to me. Okay, next to me is a bit of a stretch. It is more like glued to the left side of my body BUT YOU GET MY POINT. Awara gave me a discount code for y’all to use – ELLENWAGS. Use this code to get $350 off the purchase of a mattress!
Bed Linen Favorites
Parachute is my hands down ride or die bedding brand. The first “fancy” set of bedding Matt and I bought after getting married was from Parachute. And that set is still going strong six years later! The percale sheets are our favorite, but I’ve heard you can’t go wrong with any of them. We also love the linen box quilt we got recently in their last sale!
We recently were gifted a set of bed sheets from Cozy Earth – these sheets are bamboo, temperature regulating, super soft and luxurious feeling. I’m definitely a fan and they have been added to our rotation. (PS Cozy Earth has given me a discount code to share with my followers. You can use code CE-ELLEN to save 40% (yes FORTY) on your order!)
Extra Elements
I significantly underestimated the power of adding a rug to a carpeted room to create a cozy and put together atmosphere. We have this rug from Rugs USA. It used to live in our dining room, but we got a new rug to refresh that space and added this to our master. It definitely added an extra oomph to the room.
As much as I love working from the bed (IYKYK), we brought a desk back into our master bedroom so that Matt and I can complete our work in the evening without disturbing the girls late at night. We have had this desk from World Market for 7 years now, and it is just as perfect as the day we bought it. My only complaint is that it is slightly longer/bigger than I would like for our master bedroom. I am thinking about grabbing a more compact option for in here and moving this back into our main living space for family usage again.
That’s all for our master bedroom refresh for now! Other items on the list that we might change soon are the desk (like I mentioned before) and the dresser, but overall, I am super happy with the changes we have made so far. Thanks so much for visiting the blog today, I can’t wait to share more soon!
Some items mentioned in this post were gifted from the brands, however, all opinions are my own. This blog post contains affiliate links and codes. Using the links or codes do not cost you any extra (sometimes you save!), but helps support my blog by generating a small commission. Thank you so much for your support!
[…] This is the perfect time of year to invest in a new duvet or an extra quilt to cozy up as the weather turns a bit colder. We love Parachute’s Percale Sheets and Linen Box quilt during the summer, but as the temperatures drop, we have added a Linen Duvet that coordinates beautifully with our summer set. PS, see all my master bedroom faves right here! […]
